This is an original copperplate engraved map entitled "Canaan commonly called the Holy Land or the Land of Promise", published by Richard Blome in The History of the Old and New Testament.
Although the map itself is dated 1687 in the title cartouche, it was published as part of the 1688 New Testament section of Blome's work.
This detailed map depicts the Holy Land as described in the Bible, showing the tribal divisions of Israel together with Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, the Sea of Galilee, the River Jordan, surrounding kingdoms and numerous biblical towns and locations. The map also traces the journeys of Christ and the Apostles.
Cartographer: Richard Blome (1635–1705) was an English cartographer, publisher and bookseller, renowned for producing some of the finest English atlases and geographical works of the late 17th century. This map was engraved by Richard Palmer, whose name appears in the title cartouche.
