NASA ROMAN SPACE TELESCOPE PROGRAM MISSION COIN TOKEN MEDALLION - NEW CONDITION Roman Space Telescope instrument - The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is a NASA infrared observatory designed to study dark energy, exoplanets, and the structure of the universe, with a field of view 100 times larger than Hubble’s. The Roman Space Telescope (RST), named after NASA’s first Chief of Astronomy, Nancy Grace Roman, is an infrared space telescope, and is scheduled to launch on August 30, 2026, to a Sun–Earth L2 orbit. Its primary mirror is 2.4 meters (7.9 feet) in diameter, the same size as Hubble’s, but it offers a much wider field of view, allowing it to capture images of the sky 100 times larger than Hubble’s infrared cameras.

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is a NASA infrared observatory designed to study dark energy, exoplanets, and the structure of the universe, with a field of view 100 times larger than Hubble’s.

The Roman Space Telescope (RST), named after NASA’s first Chief of Astronomy, Nancy Grace Roman, is an infrared space telescope whose construction was completed on November 25, 2025, and is scheduled to launch on August 30, 2026, to a Sun–Earth L2 orbit Wikipedia. Its primary mirror is 2.4 meters (7.9 feet) in diameter, the same size as Hubble’s, but it offers a much wider field of view, allowing it to capture images of the sky 100 times larger than Hubble’s infrared cameras.

The telescope carries two main instruments:

  • Wide Field Instrument (WFI): A 300.8-megapixel multi-band visible and near-infrared camera that will measure light from up to a billion galaxies over its mission lifetime. It will perform a microlensing survey of the inner Milky Way to discover more than 1,000 exoplanets

  • Coronagraph Instrument (CGI): A high-contrast, small field-of-view camera and spectrometer that uses starlight-suppression technology to directly image exoplanets and planet-forming disks. This instrument serves as a technology demonstrator for future exoplanet missions
