For sale is an authentic Woolistic merino wool Team Molteni racing jersey that reproduces the jersey that would have been worn by the great Eddie Mercyx during the most successful period of his amazing career, from 1971-1976, during which time he won two of his three world championships, wins that are reflected in the rainbow stripes seen on the collar and sleeves of this jersey.
Unlike the Velos and Santini Molteni jersies, the Woolistic Molteni jersey is an accurate reproduction of the of the Molteni jersey that Eddie Mercyx wore while racing for the Molteni team and is accurately made of high quality soft merino wool that is dyed the Correct colors as used on the original Molteni Team jersey.
(Woolistic was a U.S. cycling apparel company that specialized in merino wool jerseys and promoted domestic manufacturing. Their classic cycling jerseys, were cut and sewn in the United States using merino wool fabric (the wool itself was sourced from merino sheep, typically from countries such as Australia or New Zealand, while the garments were manufactured in the U.S.)
The condition of this jersey would be considered like-new except for the small repair that needed to be made on the upper left side, as shown in the last two (close-up) photos. As is typical of racing jerseys from the 1970’s this jersey has three rear pockets and a 1/4 length front zipper. It has been worn briefly on just two occasions and is still clean and unwashed. While the jersey is designed to be machine washed on cold cycle, hand washing and “laying flat to dry” is preferred for this and any merino wool fabric in order to give it its best and longest lasting lifespan.
