Rare Antique Victorian W. S. Hicks Telescopic "Magic Pencil" – Pat. March 21, 1871

Up for online auction or purchase is a beautifully crafted, highly collectible late 19th-century Victorian pocket "magic pencil" made by the premier American manufacturer William S. Hicks of New York.

This elegant writing instrument is clearly stamped on the black barrel with its historic patent date: "PAT MARCH 21 71". This refers to U.S. Patent No. 112,917 issued to William Hicks for his celebrated "Improvement in Pencil-Cases," a foundational mechanism highly prized by vintage writing instrument enthusiasts.
