Obverse with a winged female figure of peace, reverse with a female figure standing, holding a plaque named to Messrs Bass Ratcliff & Cretton. Hallmarked to edge for Vaughton & Sons.

Bass Brewery was founded in 1777 by William Bass in Staffordshire, with the main brand being Bass Pale Ale, once the highest selling beer in the UK. In 1796 John Ratcliff joined the company and in 1835 John Gretton joined the company and it was renamed Bass, Ratcliff & Gretton. By 1880 Bass had become the largest brewery in the world nad its famous red triangle logo became known around the globe.
