About the Artist: Albert Charles Auguste Racinet was an artist, designer, engraver, lithographer, director of publishing, and art historian. He was most famous for his encyclopedia of clothing around the world and through the ages. His career in scholarly art publishing was summarized in the administrative dossier that was compiled for his nomination of Chevalier de la Lgion d'Honneur in 1878. The dossier mentions that Racinet was the author of L'Ornement polychrome, translated in English and German.
