This is an antique Japanese hanging scroll (kakemono) from the Edo period, featuring a hand-painted portrait of a beautiful woman (bijinga) with a cat. The artwork is unsigned and executed in ink and color on paper.

The composition depicts a standing woman in a traditional kimono looking down at a small black and white cat at her feet. The scroll is finished with a patterned textile mount and features black lacquered wooden roller ends (jikusaki). It comes accompanied by a wooden storage box.
