Vintage TALON Metal Sewing Seam Gauge, Collar Pointer, Button Spacer, Circle Compass. Made in USA

While the general term for a standard sliding metal ruler is a seam gauge or sewing gauge, this specific version is designed with extra physical shapes to serve four distinct tasks in sewing and tailoring:4-in-1 Functions of this Tool

1. Sewing / Hem Gauge: The primary body features a ruler with a sliding red marker. You set the slider to a specific depth to measure and check consistent hem allowances, seam lines, or pleats.

2. Collar Pointer: The pointed, angled metal tip on the far left side is designed to gently push out the corners of collars, lapels, or cuffs after they have been sewn and turned right-side out.

3. Button Spacer / Button Shank Gauge: The wide, U-shaped slotted end on the right serves two purposes. It marks the distance for even buttonhole spacing, and it can be placed under a button while sewing to leave enough thread slack (a shank) so the thick fabric can slide under it easily.

4. Circle Compass: The small circular hole near the button spacer slot can be used as a pivot point. By placing a pin through that hole into your fabric and inserting a pencil tip at the red slider notch, you can spin the tool to draw perfect circles or curves.

Talon produced these gauges from 1975- 1989
