This original antique engraving comes from Volume 6, Part 2 of General Zoology, or Systematic Natural History by the noted English naturalist George Shaw, with illustrations by renowned entomologist and artist James Francis Stephens. Published in London during the early 1800s, this landmark work sought to document and classify the animal kingdom according to the scientific knowledge of the period.

James Francis Stephens, one of Britain's leading entomologists, provided detailed engravings that combined scientific accuracy with artistic elegance. Each antique print is ready for framing and arrives with an archival acid-free 2-ply board and in a poly sleeve suitable for archival storage.

Being that this paper is over 200 years old, it is in very good condition. The original hand-painted colors remain vibrant and stable. The paper is lightweight, strong and not brittle. The reverse side of the print is blank.
