** EDWARD VII CORONATION CHAIR **
Height: 5.5cm
Weight: Approx. 21 grams
Hallmarked: Chester 1901

A fascinating and highly collectable antique sterling silver miniature model of the famous Coronation Chair, hallmarked for Chester 1901 and produced by the renowned silversmiths Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings (Frank) Shepherd.

This beautifully detailed piece faithfully recreates the Gothic design of the historic Coronation Chair housed in Westminster Abbey, complete with the characteristic high pointed back, architectural tracery and decorative lions supporting the base. The open underside reflects the original form of the chair, which was designed to house the Stone of Scone beneath the seat.

Its 1901 hallmark is particularly significant, falling immediately before the Coronation of King Edward VII, making this a wonderful period souvenir connected with one of the great royal events of the early twentieth century. Royal commemorative silver miniatures from this period remain highly sought after by collectors of both coronation memorabilia and antique miniature furniture.

A superb antique example with crisp detail, excellent weight and outstanding display appeal.
