The Pharaon comport / bowl is an iconic piece in cased cut crystal (usually blue or green – here green), created by the designer Joseph Simon for the Belgian crystalworks Val Saint Lambert.
This prestigious model first appeared in the 1926 "Cristaux de fantaisie" (Fancy Crystal) catalogue (see two last pictures from the catalogue)
The "Pharaon" comport / bowl is an iconic model, typical of the 1920s and a fine example of the evolution of Val's pieces between 1920 and 1930, when the articles became simpler and less ornate. It is a rare model with a flared rim that gives this wonderful comport an original and elegant character. It stands out for its geometric cut work, characteristic of the Roaring Twenties, and a solid crystal base. The foot was applied while hot on the underside.
