Charming antique embroidery (cross-stitch) of a little girl in the clothing of the 1810s–1820s.  She is wearing a red dress and white pinafore and standing in front of a gate against a background of greenery.  Sprays of greenery and flowers are embroidered in each corner.   Under the figure is a partially preserved name in gold beadwork.  The first letter is either E or F; the last is S, probably preceded by an apostrophe.  Judging from the space in between, the name was probably Fann(y), which was popular in the early nineteenth century.

The frame measures 18" x 16" x 1.5".  It is ogee-style, made of pine or other light wood.   The joints are formed with mortise and tenon construction.  The nails have square heads.  A previous owner dated it to 1800 (tape on the back).

The embroidery is preserved under glass and has a back made of very old wood.  The frame hangs from a wire between two eyelets.
