This is an excellent and rare geode from the Keokuk Region.  It was collected from a geode-bearing layer of shale near the town of St Francisville, Missouri. This is a premium location that regularly produces high-grade geode specimens.

It is composed of an outer shell of Chalcedony that has been filled with sparkling cubic calcite crystals. The crystals are well formed and beautiful. There is a small, light pink calcite crystal adorning the brown calcite.

Brown calcite geodes are some of the most rare geodes the Keokuk Region has to offer.

There is a small spot in the geode that has an area flaking off, but it doesn't effect the beauty. This geode is being sold "as is".

This geode is approximately the size of a grapefruit which is rather large for this type of geode.

It will make an excellent addition to any collection.
