This is an excellent quartz geode from the Keokuk Region, an area world renowned for it's unique and beautiful geodes. This area is comprised of the midwestern tri-state area where Missouri, Illinois, and Iowa come together. Geodes may be found in the rock layers, rivers, and streams in this area. These geodes are known to contain multiple secondary minerals and crystal combinations, and are some of the most beautiful geodes you can find in the U.S. This geode was collected from a geode-bearing layer of shale near the town of Alexandria, Missouri.

It is composed of an outer shell of Chalcedony that has been filled with sparkling quartz crystals. On the quartz, some lovely pyrite crystals can be seen. Adorning the center of this geode is a beautiful cluster of translucent calcite crystals. The calcite is pink in color and is beautiful. The crystals are well formed and really steal the show in this geode.
