This is an excellent geode from the Hamilton, Illinois area. It was collected from a geode-bearing outcrop just outside of town. It was formed on an ancient sea floor some 350 million years ago during the Mississippian Period. This ancient environment now lays exposed in portions of Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois in an area known as the Keokuk Region, which boasts some of the world's best geodes. This region comprises an area in a 60 mile radius from the town of Keokuk, Iowa which is where it gets it's name.

This geode piece has beautiful sparkling quartz crystals that really light up on a sunny day. Nestled in the center is a perfectly formed cluster of calcite crystals. There is a small bruise on the crystal but it doesn't take away from it's frosty white beauty.

This geode is approximately the size of a ping pong ball and will make an excellent addition to your collection.
