This is a beautiful and unique geode from Hamilton, Illinois. It was collected from a geode-bearing outcrop of shale just outside of town. This area is within the Keokuk Region, an area world renowned for it's excellent geode specimens.

This geode is composed of an outer shell that has been filled with hundreds of sparkling quartz crystals. Some of them have formed into a rounded mass know as a snowball in geode terms. On top of the quartz are several frosty white Aragonite crystals. Calcite also adorns the quartz with nicely formed rhombohedral crystals.

The Geode is approximately tennis ball sized.

This will make an excellent addition to any collection.
