Unlocked 12v 4G LTE WiFi Router Kit

For Motorhomes, Caravans, Campervans, Boats, Rural Homes and Mobile Offices

Proper WiFi In The Van, Not Just A Phone Hotspot

This is a full 4G router rather than a pocket mobile hotspot. You put your own data SIM in, and it gives you a normal home style WiFi network plus four wired Ethernet ports. It runs straight off 12V vehicle power, so it works with no mains hookup, and it comes with a 240V adaptor for when you do have one.

It supports the low frequency LTE bands that actually matter for rural coverage, and it uses two external aerials on 1.5m leads so you can position them for signal instead of relying on tiny internal antennas. That combination is the difference between one bar and a usable connection in a lot of places.

No SIM is included. It works with any UK or European data SIM you already have or buy separately.

Setup In Five Steps

  1. Screw the two aerials onto the connectors
  2. Insert your data SIM (standard SIM size, adaptor included for nano and micro SIMs)
  3. Plug into a 12V socket in the vehicle, or into mains using the supplied adaptor
  4. Connect your phone or laptop to the WiFi name printed on the label
  5. If your network needs an APN entering, follow the printed guide in the box

No laptop or computer is required. Everything can be done from a phone.

Common Questions

Will it work with the SIM I already have?
Yes, as long as it is a data enabled SIM on a UK or European network. The router is fully unlocked. Data only SIMs, mobile broadband SIMs and standard phone SIMs all work. Some networks require an APN to be entered, which takes about thirty seconds and is covered in the printed guide.

What SIM size does it take?
It takes a full size standard SIM. A SIM adaptor is included, so nano and micro SIMs fit fine.

Can I run it off a leisure battery?
Yes. It draws DC 12V at up to 1A, so roughly 12W at full load and typically less. That is comparable to a couple of LED lights and is well within what a normal leisure setup will handle.

Does it work with no mains hookup at all?
Yes. The 12V lead is the primary power option. The mains adaptor is there for home or hookup use.

Is it 5G?
No. This is a 4G LTE CAT4 device. In practice, 4G coverage in rural and coastal areas is far wider than 5G, which is why this suits off grid use, but if you specifically want 5G this is not the unit.

How many devices can connect?
Comfortably enough for a family. Phones, tablets, laptops, smart TVs and streaming sticks all work, plus up to four devices wired via Ethernet.

Will it work abroad?
Yes, it supports the main European LTE bands. Check your SIM provider's roaming terms separately.

Do I need to be technical?
No. For most SIMs it is genuinely plug in and go. The admin interface is there if you want to change the WiFi name and password, set up port forwarding or check signal strength, but you do not have to touch it.

Honest Limitations

Things worth knowing before you buy, so there are no surprises:

  • WiFi is 2.4GHz only. Better range and wall penetration than 5GHz, which is what you want in a vehicle, but it is not a fast dual band home router.
  • It cannot create signal that is not there. If your phone has nothing at all in a spot, this will struggle too. What it does is make weak signal usable.
  • No SIM or data allowance is included.

Included In The Box

  • 1 x 4G LTE WiFi router
  • 2 x external aerials with approx. 1.5m cable
  • 1 x 12V power connector 1m cable
  • 1 x 240V mains adaptor
  • 1 x SIM card adaptor
  • 1 x printed setup guide

Why It Performs Well In Rural Areas

The key advantage over many budget 4G routers is the range of supported LTE bands, particularly Band 20 and Band 28. These are the low frequency bands the UK and European networks use for long range rural coverage and for getting signal through walls and vehicle bodywork.

Cheaper routers often omit them, which is why they can show good signal in a town and nothing useful on a campsite or in a marina.

Well suited to:

  • Motorhomes and campervans
  • Caravans and campsites
  • Boats and marinas
  • Rural homes and broadband backup
  • Farm buildings and workshops
  • Garden offices and remote working
  • Temporary site offices
  • Travelling across Europe

Supported 4G LTE Bands

  • Band 1 (2100MHz)
  • Band 3 (1800MHz)
  • Band 5 (850MHz)
  • Band 7 (2600MHz)
  • Band 8 (900MHz)
  • Band 20 (800MHz)
  • Band 28 (700MHz)
  • Band 38 (2600MHz TDD)
  • Band 40 (2300MHz TDD)
  • Band 41 (2500MHz TDD)

Compatible with EE, Vodafone, O2, Three and most European networks, subject to SIM compatibility and local coverage.
