Pair of Antique Pillowcases with Monogram Panel and Crochet Hem, 23 inches wide, 33 inches long, possibly hand-made, probably early 1900’s, possibly European (France or Germany), 1 has a tiny hole upper right, 1 has darkening from age (probably stored around the other) plus a few small dark spots near the top, the monogram is a “T” inside a crochet panel that is sewn into a cut out in the fabric, the crochet hem is 2 ¼ inches long and is hand sewn to the bottom folded edge of the pillowcase, the design is like a tilted seashell or carrot, these are very large pillowcases which may indicate that they are European, the most unusual feature is that there is no side stitching, only the edge is stitched and the bottom edge is folded and stitched, this means that they are basically flattened tubes, the cloth is either cotton or linen and looks to be textured like homespun, but on what, a lovely set of antique textiles.
