A rare commemorative "Master’s Pack" issued by the Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887.
This specific deck was commissioned by the Master of the Company for that year, Albert Altman. Unlike standard souvenir decks of the era, these were private commissions produced in limited numbers for the Liverymen of the City of London.
Manufactured by Charles Goodall and Sons, London this is a full 52-card deck with the original case.
The deck is in very good antique condition. It shows signs of light aging and play consistent with its 130+ year history.
The cards are generally very clean there is an area of surface damage/loss to the bottom corner of the two of Diamonds. There are also very light, minor marks worse on the three of Diamonds and the eight of Clubs (see photos).
The deck features plain edges (not gilt).
Includes the original brown presentation case with the gilt-stamped Company crest. The gilt on the exterior of the case shows age-related wear/rubbing, and the case shows shelf wear.
