The land of his childhood - wide steppes, cozy villages immersed in green gardens, flowers of mallows and sunflowers, majestic rhythms of harsh heaps - he later reflected in many of his works. The artist's second home was Prykarpattia, Lviv, where he graduated from the Lviv State Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts in the Department of Monumental Painting (graduated in 1953).
From 1958 to 1962 Tkachenko taught painting, drawing and composition at the I. Trush Lviv School. From 1962 he worked as a lecturer at the Lviv State Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts (since 1947 - Associate Professor of Painting). He participated in many exhibitions - regional, interregional, national, All-Union and foreign. In 1976, a personal exhibition was held at the Lviv State Museum of Ukrainian Art.
