Robinson had a remarkable career, first in the Negro Leagues with the Kansas City Monarchs, then in the Majors, joining the Brooklyn Dodgers after a season with Montreal, their top farm club.  He overcame much adversity when he joined the Dodgers in 1947.  He would win the Rookie of the Year Award, then later became the National League MVP in 1949, also winning the Batting Championship.  A 7-Time All-Star, he would lead Brooklyn to their only World Series Championship in 1955, defeating the New York Yankees.  Jackie led the NL in Stolen Bases in both 1947 and 1949.  He finished his career with a .313 Batting Average, 141 Home Runs and 761 RBI.  His Number 42 is retired by the Dodgers, as well as every Major League team.  He is honored in New York's Monument Park and was a member of MLB's All-Century Team.  Robinson was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962 on the first ballot.
