ABOUT THIS COIN:

This listing is for a freshly graded 1972 Eisenhower Type III Clad (not Silver) dollars in BU Uncirculated condition. Holdered by NGC with standard brown label. Going by the info on coinscatalog, coincommunity, ikegroup, ngccoin, and pcgs, I felt these coins would grade at least 64 went I sent them in for submission. As you can see this coin was graded at MS-64. A very nice and lustrous example of a 72P Ike.

Eisenhower Dollars were heavy copper clad coins that were shipped in bags and as such got banged up. They are plagued with weak strikes and bag marks so coins in higher grades are harder to come by. 1972 (and 1971) Eisenhower dollars were not included in U.S. Mint Sets so finding them in uncirculated condition is more difficult now.

Another fun fact about the 1972 Eisenhower dollars minted in Philadelphia: There were three types, with the type 1 being minted throughout most of the year, from January to August. The type 3 reverse coin was only minted from September to December. The more scarcer type 2's were only minted on 2 know runs, one in March and one in August of that year. In my opinion there were probably only about 200,000 type 2's minted. Since the total mintage of the 1972 P Ike's was just under 76 million, I would put the mintage of the type 3 to about 25 million, or 1/3 of the total mintage. Please let me know if you have more information regarding this.
