Sutcliffe Diana Tinplate Clockwork Cruiser Boxed With Original
Fittings and Key
This new unused Diana was given to me by a colleague who worked with me at the local college.
He had grown up close to the Sutcliffes and
knew them well. The firm had shut down
but one of the brothers had a workshop at the bottom of his garden together
with tools, jigs and a collection of pressings from the various boats that they
had made over the years
At the same time the romance and marriage of
Princess Diana and Charles was at the forefront of the news
This was the catalyst to create this one off
Diana cruiser using pressings from various boats in the Sutcliffe range until
they ran out
The result was this one off design built in
limited numbers
The boat has never been run on the water and
it is just as it would have been when it was completed and put in the box. You won’t find a better example than this one
– see the photographs
The box is also a one off – no colourful
printed design. Just a plain box with a
black and white label stuck on the lid
The original key and fittings come in the
original paper bag which was the typical packaging for them
