Here we have an Antique RARE !! 1883 Rust Patented THE STANDARD RULE CO. No. 6 Smooth Sole Fore Plane.  Solon R. Rust and Arthur E. Rust established their Standard Rule Company in Unionville, CT in 1872.  They started manufacturing rules, levels and try squares and then decided to branch out into planes.  On October 30, 1883 they were awarded patent No. 287,584 for an adjustable woodworking plane. This plane is in Very Good clean, working, 'used tool' condition with some loss of the surface finishes. The lever cap has a couple of fleabite nicks on the edge.   It should be noted that I believe that previous owners have made a few changes to the plane.  The original 2-3/8"W Standard rule cutting iron was replaced with a nice thick tapered Auburn Tool Co. version.  I believe that the brass thumbscrew for the lever cap should be much larger so this one may be a replacement. Also, the tote looks like the anchoring rod was replaced with one that has a brass nut.  The tote and knob have NO cracks or breaks.  The 'rocking' frog works as it should along with the lateral lever.  The plane has a very nice smooth sole surface and a verry good mouth. The side rails have a couple of very small nicks and owner initials.  Despite the owner changes noted above, this is still a very rare plane and is worth of an addition to your patent plane collection !! The plane weighs approx. 6.5 lbs. UNPACKED !! NO cracks or breaks in this plane !!  Please review pics to confirm condition!  I offer FREE LOCAL PICKUP !!
