⚜️ This is a rare and culturally significant Russian translation of the Estonian national epic “Kalevipoeg”, published in 1950 under the title Сын Калевa (Son of Kalev). Originally authored by F. R. Kreutzwald, this edition was translated into Russian by Vladislav Derzhavin and A. Kochetkov, and illustrated by P. Luhtean in a distinctive folkloric style.
Printed by the Soviet children’s publisher Detgiz in Moscow and Leningrad, this hardcover was part of the Школьная библиотека (School Library) series, intended to introduce republic literature to Russian-speaking students during the early Cold War period. The pages are richly decorated with red-black graphic frames and folk motifs that echo traditional Estonian design.
