Original 19th-century French engineering plan illustrating the pioneering Channel Tunnel proposals of Aimé Thomé de Gamond, widely regarded as the father of the Channel Tunnel.
Published in 1871 in L’Année Scientifique et Industrielle by Louis Figuier, and issued in Paris by Hachette, this folding lithographed plan presents plans and cross-sectional profiles for a proposed sub-marine tunnel between England and France — a visionary scheme developed more than a century before the tunnel was ultimately realised.
The plan shows the proposed route, profiles, and structural concepts, reflecting contemporary engineering thinking on geology and construction beneath the English Channel. Lithographed and signed “Lith Bineteau, Paris”, identifying the original printer.
Examples of this specific plan are rarely encountered on the market.

Very tidy overall for its age, with light, honest ageing and a few small age marks. Retains original folds. A few small tears along fold lines at corners and edges have been reinforced on the verso with conservation tape (not visible from the front). Colours remain strong. A very attractive example that would display beautifully framed.
