Artwork Details
This original artwork by internationally
acclaimed, automotive artist-illustrator, Argentinian-born, Hector Luis
Bergandi, features Ferrari driver Giannino Marzotto driving the Ferrari 166 MM,
highlighting Marzotto’s determination and aggressive driving skill as well as
the distinctive design and power of the 166 MM.
The Marzotto brothers Vittorio, Umberto,
Giannino and Paolo were recognized as very spirited and challenging grand prix
and sports car drivers in the late 40’s through the mid 50’s.
Giannino and Paolo were the epitome of a
Ferrari ‘gentleman driver’.
The four brothers were born into a super
wealthy family textile business that evolved into one of Italy’s most
prestigious men’s fashion houses.
Before venturing into racing, the brothers,
particularly Giannino, loved to drive fast sports cars. Because of their super
wealth, the four brothers very quickly became Enzo Ferrari’s best customers and
future “gentleman drivers’.
Vittorio, Giannino and Paolo, in addition to
racing as Privateers, soon became official Ferrari factory drivers in the early
‘50’s.
Giannino was an official Ferrari factory driver
in 1953 and 1954 along with Ascari, Carini, Farina, Gonzalez, Hawthorne,
Maglioli, Manzon, P. Hill, Rosier, Schell, Sighinolfi, Rosier, Taruffi,
Trintignant and Villoresi.
The Marzotto brothers drove in many Grand Prix
and endurance races as privateers under the Scuderia Marzotto brand and well as
drivers for Scuderia Ferrari. Several of the events included: Silverstone, Targa Florio, Coppa
d’Oro delle Dolomiti, 24-Hours Le Mans, Giro de Sicilia, Napoli Grand Prix,
Mille Miglia, Coppa Acerbo – 12-hour Circuito di Pescara and others.
Overall, the Marzotto brothers enjoyed numerous
victories and were recognized as good customers and key drivers for Enzo
Ferrari and his Scuderia Ferrari team.
Renowned artist Hector Luis Bergandi began his
series of Ferrari driver illustrations with the legendary 1947 stable. Through
his artwork, Bergandi offers more than simple portraits; his expressive and
compelling interpretations vividly encapsulate the spirit and racing legacy of
each Ferrari pilot.
Each illustration not only highlights the
distinctive character and determination of the drivers but also brings to life
the specific Ferrari race cars they piloted, preserving the unforgettable
moments and memories from the golden era of racing.

through 1995. During my 18-year relationship with Ferrari North America and
Ferrari S.p.A., I accumulated an extensive collection of hundreds of Ferrari
collectibles/memorabilia from Ferrari North America and from the Factory in
Maranello.
In addition to coordinating the introduction of
the Ferrari Testarossa to the North American market in 1982, I personally recommended to Ferrari North
America Management that they launch the introduction of the 348 Spider in
Beverly Hills, California by closing off Rodeo Drive and having the first ever
Ferrari Concours d’Elegance on Rodeo Drive as the highlight of the 1993
Introduction of the 348 Spider.
My agency designed and produced all the
marketing and advertising materials for the 348 Spider Introduction as well.
During my 18-year relationship with Ferrari, I
was the Editor of Rosso Ferrari Magazine.
During my tenure, I edited and published nine Issues from 1990 through
1993 including Issue number Eight - Ferrari Rodeo Drive.
As the Editor of Rosso Ferrari Magazine, I
commissioned Bergandi to create Ferrari Car Art Illustrations to be featured in
Rosso Ferrari Issues.
As a result of my relationship with Mr.
Bergandi, I also commissioned him to design a poster for the 348 Spider Rodeo
Drive Introduction.
