Postcard Details

​Subject: The front features a color illustration of the Wolf River Tub, Fibre & Paper Co. in Shawano, Wisconsin. This mill was a major industrial hub in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and eventually became part of the Shawano Paper Mills.

​Postmark: It was mailed from Zachow, Wisconsin, on October 5, 1907. Zachow is a small unincorporated community in Shawano County, making this a "local" piece of history.

​Stamp: A green 1-cent Benjamin Franklin stamp (Series of 1902). This was the standard rate for postcards at the time.

​Addressee: Mrs. Ella Bramschreiber in Zachow, Wis.

​Message: A handwritten note from a friend ("Gottschalk") mentioning a sick friend named Mary and a potential "little pup" for the recipient.

​Publisher

​The postcard was published by Geo. J. Schulz out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Schulz was a known regional publisher during this era. The card is part of their "Litho-Chrome" series, which was a trade name for a specific printing process (likely printed in Germany, as indicated by the "Made in Germany" text on the side) that achieved high-quality color gradations before American printers perfected the process.

​Condition Assessment

​Based on the images, the card is in Good to Very Good antique condition:

​Pros: The colors are still vibrant; the stamp is intact; the postmark is clear and readable; and there is no major structural damage like heavy creases or tears.

​Cons: There is some light "silvering" or age-related wear on the front surface (common for Litho-Chrome cards), minor corner rounding, and typical light "postmark bleed" where the ink from the back has slightly impressed onto the front image.
