Camp Mac Arthur Lining UpPostcard By A. M. Simon, 32 Union Square, New York

Historical Details

This is a World War I-era postcard depicting Camp MacArthur in Waco, Texas.

Location/Subject: The image shows a "Company Street" with soldiers "Lining Up" between rows of Sibley-style tents. Camp MacArthur was established in 1917 as a training base for the 32nd Infantry Division (nicknamed the "Red Arrow" division).

Publisher: It was published by A. M. Simon, located at 32 Union Square, New York. Simon was a prolific publisher in the early 20th century known for high-quality topographical and military views.

Era: This is a Divided Back postcard (c. 1907–1915+). While the format began in 1907, the specific subject matter dates this card precisely to the 1917–1919 period when the camp was active.

Printing Type: This appears to be a halftone lithograph (printed with a dot pattern) rather than a Real Photo Postcard (RPPC), though it is based on a specific historical photograph from the camp.

Condition Assessment

This postcard would be as considered Very Good (VG). While "Good" sounds positive in most contexts, in postcard grading, it is a mid-tier rank.

Front: The image is clear and well-centered. There is some light "foxing" (small brown age spots) and minor surface wear, which is typical for its age.

Edges/Corners: The corners show slight rounding and "blunting," but no major "dog-ears" or significant structural damage.

Reverse: It is unposted (no stamp or handwritten message), which many collectors prefer as it keeps the back clean. There is a vertical crease or line visible on the left side of the back, which looks like a "bend" that hasn't quite broken the paper fibers into a sharp crease.

Size: 3-1/2" x 5-1/2"
