HMV DIPLOMAT 2171 Transistor Radio 1970.

Featuring the iconic His Master's Voice logo to the badge, this is an original HMV radio - a very large transistor set. Measurements are shown below, along with general spec. It features the original affixed dealer plate (Wright Rental, Kenilworth).

Excellent overall condition. There will be minor marks to this 55-year-old radio.

The radio performs extremely well on all bands with very deep bass thanks to the large speaker and separate bass and treble controls.

Although designed to take 2 x PP9 batteries these are now expensive and hard to come by, so it has been converted to run on 6 x AA batteries NOT SUPPLIED. The leads just snap on to the original terminals so you could still run it from 2 x PP9s if you want to.

Being picky, there is rust to the bracket in the battery compartment and a little more around the case/back near that area but there was no recent leakage when I got it and I haven't needed to clean this up, apart from wiping the whole radio with a leather cleaning cloth - and it is really shiny and smart!

Also, please remember that FM only goes up to around 104 as the Police broadcast above that frequency back in the day.

There is an 18 volt socket for connecting a mains supply but one with the correct amps/voltage and polarity must be used so please don't connect a universal supply without checking - if in doubt, just use 12 x AA batteries. Duracells should last for many, many hours. The radio has not been tested through this socket.

And underneath is a car aerial connector- I think these were designed as a car hybrid set and it would fit in the dash, or on a bracket underneath.
