An incredible “album signature sampler Quilt” circa 1850 from New York and especially the Long Island area

This Quilt has many names that we have researched and one of them is Stephen V. Rensselaer Baker, who was born in Sag Harbor 1810 and is a descendent of one of the oldest families on the island. Stephen Baker was able to trace his genealogy back to 1670 in which a member of the family immigrated from Holland to Long Island.

Other names include Lockwood, Vail, Anderson, and Howell.

This album sampler includes all different flowers with exceptional hand, appliqué, and reverse applique work throughout.

There is a Vining floral border on three sides

Summer weight without batting

Measures 94 x 80“

Expertly hand quilted at 10 tiny stitches per inch, hand bound

In excellent condition, see the last three photos for light soiling, and one tiny nick in the binding. Unfaded and no wear noted.

This is an exceptional Quilt, for the Long Island historian, it would also be stunning to replicate and pattern.

An American treasure!
