The price is going to increase over the years as more and more silver is used by industry and which has been more than what the mines have been producing for the last few years.
Unfortunately, the Agate ashtray was never weighed before silver was applied, so the weight of the silver is not known.
This unique Agate ashtray which is encased in PURE Silver (99%) was made in the late 1970's by an Australian jewellery manufacturing company, Gem Plating Pty Ltd.
The company produced jewellery under the brand name Silverform which somewhat indicated the very specialized manufacturing process used by the company.
Normally, a piece of silver would be bent, shaped and hammered as best as possible to fit the uneven surface of the ashtray, but it would never be a perfect fit whereas the Silverform process makes the silver attached itself directly onto the item so that not even a razor blade will find a gap.
When the company closed down, a large quantity of finished and semi-finished were put into storage.
This ashtray is new and has never been used.
