Arkhip Kuindzhi was a Russian landscape painter associated with the Peredvizhniki movement. He is known for dramatic use of light, expansive compositions, and a focus on atmospheric effects, often presenting natural scenes with heightened tonal contrast and clarity.

After the Rain (1879) depicts a broad landscape under clearing skies. The composition emphasizes contrast between illuminated ground and receding cloud formations, using tonal gradation to convey depth and atmospheric transition.
