Historical Significance:
Carl Yastrzemski is one of the greatest players in Boston Red Sox history and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989 in his first year of eligibility. “Yaz” played his entire 23-year career with the Red Sox from 1961 to 1983, earning 18 All-Star selections and seven Gold Glove Awards. He won the Triple Crown in 1967, leading the American League in batting average (.326), home runs (44), and RBIs (121) while also winning the AL MVP award that same year.
Yastrzemski was a three-time batting champion and finished his career with 3,419 hits, 452 home runs, and a .285 batting average. He was the last player to win the Triple Crown until Miguel Cabrera achieved the feat in 2012. Yastrzemski’s 1967 season is considered one of the greatest individual seasons in baseball history, as he carried the Red Sox to the World Series in what became known as the “Impossible Dream” season.
The card’s reverse highlights Yastrzemski’s exceptional abilities: “Carl holds big league mark for outfielders, leading league in Assists six seasons. He’s drawn 520 Bases on Balls in last 5 years.” This showcases his complete game, combining offensive production with outstanding defensive play.
Yastrzemski was also an exceptional clutch performer and one of the most feared hitters of his generation. His number 8 was retired by the Red Sox, and he remains one of the most beloved figures in Boston sports history. He succeeded Ted Williams in left field at Fenway Park and carved out his own legendary career.
Condition:
This card has been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator). The PSA 5 EX grade indicates excellent condition with wear consistent with the grade. The card displays the classic 1973 Topps design with rounded corners and a clean photograph of Yastrzemski in his batting stance wearing the Red Sox home uniform at Fenway Park. The orange player name and blue team name remain vibrant, and the pink position silhouette logo is clearly visible. This is a solid mid-grade example of this Hall of Famer’s card. The card is protected in the tamper-evident PSA holder.
