This issue was released to coincide with the 2017 Duck Tales TV reboot, which featured a new voice cast and updated animation style.
The comic series mirrors the reboot’s tone—fast-paced, witty, and character-driven—while preserving the legacy of Carl Barks’ original duck family adventures.
It’s part of a broader effort by IDW to revitalize Disney Afternoon properties in comic form.
Duck Tales #1 contains two short stories that reflect the tone and style of the 2017 animated series:
“The Great Experiment of the Washing Machine”
Donald Duck and his nephews (Huey, Dewey, and Louie) visit a secret lab filled with bizarre inventions.
One invention promises to make life easier—but might also make them shorter!
The story blends slapstick humour with sci-fi gadgetry and classic Duck Tales chaos.
“The Chilling Secret of the Lighthouse”
A spooky mystery unfolds as the gang investigates a haunted lighthouse.
The tale mixes light horror elements with adventurous problem-solving, showcasing the nephews’ curiosity and teamwork.
Both stories are written by Joe Caramagna and are designed to be accessible to younger readers while still appealing to long time fans of the franchise
