Feds ’N’ Heads #1 (1968)
Original TRUE First Printing — self-published by Gilbert Shelton in Austin, TX.
This historic underground comix release features the first appearance of The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and Wonder Wart-Hog — cornerstone figures of 1960s counterculture art & psychedelia.
First Print Identifiers:
• Spring 1968 issue
• Yellow road / white sidewalk cover
• White buildings
• 24 pages (later prints = 28)
• $0.35 cover price
Condition:
Excellent interior: strong staples, tight spine, vivid cover color, clean pages.
Only notable flaws are a small corner chip on the front cover — see close-up photo. Some surface ink/surface fibers missing on front and back cover-see pics for details. Some light spotting on back cover. Crease on back cover as seen in pics.
Aside from that this copy presents beautifully and is far cleaner than most surviving underground examples.
No restoration, trimming, or pressing.
Stored in a smoke-free collector environment.
Serious collectors know the scarcity of clean FIRST PRINT underground comix — especially Shelton’s early Austin-period work. A must-have for Freak Bros / Zap Comix / counterculture collectors.
