Up for sale is a hard copy paper ticket from Shohei Ohtani’s record breaking 50/50 performance when the LA Dodgers visited the Miami Marlins on 9-19-2024. The Dodgers won 20-4!
Most of the tickets for resale are marked $25 because they were purchased by fans after the fact.
After Shohei’s 50 HR, fans exited the ball park en masse to purchase these tickets at the box office.
In fact, these tickets were still sold by LoanDepot Park for at least the next day after the game took place!
How is this possible?
While only some 17,000 fans were in attendance for the record breaking game, LoanDepot Park has a 37,000 seating capacity, so many of these seats were empty and tickets unsold.
The $25 tickets that were sold to fans were for the upper 300 sections which were not even open for seating. (If you look to buy tickets this year for a Marlins game you will see that there is not an option to purchase tickets in these sections.)
The listed ticket was for section 22, along the 3rd base side (see last pic). It is marked as a reprint because the attendee had an e-ticket and had already entered the ball park prior to requesting this hard copy, thus invalidating the paper copy for entry.
It is rare these days to have a paper ticket unless you walk up to the box office to purchase tickets for the game that same day. Most people purchase tickets online, for which no paper copies are given. Perhaps some exceptions would be group sales with pick up at will call and some season ticket packages.
I imagine most people who attended the game actually have no hard copy printout making this ticket that much rarer as the seat for this ticket was actually utilized by a fan on that historic day.
Take a look on eBay. The vast majority of tickets are of the $25 variety located in the 300 sections.
This ticket has been graded by Beckett as a MINT 9. IMO, Beckett authenticates and grades tickets a bit more stringently than PSA.
