Beautiful vibrant Multicolored Wool Assumption Sash, also known as a "ceinture fléchée" or arrow sash. This is a traditional piece of clothing with cultural significance, particularly for French-Canadians in Quebec, Métis people, and some Indigenous groups.

The sash measures 96” long without fringe, 150” long with fringe, and 7 3/8” wide. There is a fair amount of moth damage, which is particularly visible when held up to the light (unadvisable habit if you’re looking to preserve the piece.)

The sash comes from the estate of a 20th century Chicago area philanthropist and publisher, who traveled widely and collected folk art from around the world, and from North America in particular.
