This listing is for a very rare “L’Hommedieu” countermarked Lima, Peru 1818 LIMAE-JP 2 Reales. After considerable research I found 2 references to and 1 picture of a “L’Hommedieu” stamped large cent, consistent with the privately counterstamped coins which were made and circulated during the “Hard Times” of the 1830s. It might be related to the L’Hommedieu brothers who were silversmiths in Mobile, Alabama from 1837-1849. The planchet is slightly irregular which is normal for Spanish colonial silver and it measures approximately 27.1mm by 27.8mm in diameter with a weight of 6.28g. Condition as shown in the photos, we took several so please give them a good look. Shipping via USPS Priority Mail.
