This is a very old apothecary bottle produced by Whitall Tatum Company between 1902 to approx. 1924. The bottle has the original paper label identifying the contents as OIL OF CLOVES, and identifying the pharmacy for which it was made. It has the original glass stopper, still attached with the original twine to the neck of the bottle. It measures 2” square and is 8” tall including the stopper. The bottom of the bottle is marked on “W.T. CO.” for the Whitall Tatum Company of Millville, NJ. W.T. CO. was especially well-known for the production of medicine and prescription bottle used by local druggists and pharmacies across the country.
This apothecary bottle is in very good condition. The only flaw I see is a small chip of the bottom edge of the glass stopper and an extremely small flake on the lip at the top. The glass is clean and there are otherwise no flaws. This is an especially nice bottle that would be a great addition to an established collection or to start a new one. Apothecary jars have so many uses today; from spice jars to jars used for bath salts and oils, etc. But perhaps best of all they are just a lovely display item reminiscent of yesteryear.
