Going to the grocery store as a kid was a big mf deal, especially if our dad took us. It was still an incredible excursion with our Mom, but my dad held the purse, so it was more lucrative. With Mom, she had a routine, and a list, so it was orderly. Plus, she was on an allowance, so we couldn’t deviate too far from the script. And my Mom knew all the women who worked at the Jewel/Osco(Albertsons), and they were invested in each other. She would sit and talk to Tai in the bakery for like 25 mins, like major gossips, like whispers and arm touching, and “Shaun, go look at the magazines “, which was just a beautiful existence, because I could linger there for an hour, and no one cared. Now my dad, he was quick, he would go down every aisle, but we would see something, and be like Dad, how about this stuff? And he’d take from you, and put it in the cart, no questions about price or vitamin intake, just dump it in the cart. And it wasn’t always the generic with pops, he’d get the fancy, creamy Mac n cheese. And the cart would be filled, to the brim, and my dad would head for the checkout, and I’d give him that puppy dog eyes, and ask, “Dad, can I go look at the magazines?”. And he’d gruff and huff and say,”Be quick about it boy, we got ice cream to get home”. And I’d run to the magazines, and I didn’t have to thumb them and put them back, like with Mom. I could grab a Mad & Cracked, a Hit Parader or Circus, and even some weird poster teen bop magazine, it didn’t matter. As long as I ran back to the cart before he was getting the receipt, I was gold.

Now, this was hung up in a 14 yr old boys room, who was not super proficient in the art of tacks and staples, so keep that in mind. Tack & staple holes may be there, make sure to examine pics.
