Description: Scarce Science Fiction novel. The book first appeatred in 1894 - this "New Edition" is the first to include the 16 illustrations by Fred T Jane. 

Original pictorial gilt cloth hardback. 8.25 inches by 6.25 inches. 377 pages plus three pages of adverts, plus 16 illustrations, all present and correct. Tissue guard to frontispiece. The book is in very attractive condition with titles and covers remaining bright, and some light wear bumping to the spine ends and corner tips (see pictures). Binding sound and square. with paper cracking at hinges but holding nicely firm. Internally clean, with some toning and discoloration to leaves (see pictures). 

George Griffith (George Chetwynd Griffith-Jones, 1857-1906) was rightly admired, by bibliographers such as George Locke, as the creator or populariser of many genres of speculative fiction.
