Original 1888 antique color lithographed map of County Wexford in the historic province of Leinster, southeastern Ireland, printed more than 135 years ago.

• The map is titled:  "County of Wexford" and details include roads, railways, cities, towns, natural features, and baronies.



• Baronies were subdivisions of the various counties in Ireland, akin to the hundreds into which the counties of England were divided. Baronies were effectively ended by the Local Government Act of 1898, ten years after this map was printed.



• Among the named places and features on this map are Gorey, New Ross, Owenduff River, the Dublin, Wicklow & Wexford Railway, Ballyteige Castle, Tulleycanna, Enniscorthy, Carnsore Point, Newtownbarry, Blackwater, Saltee Islands, Oilgate (or Oylegate), the Waterford, New Ross & Wexford Railway, Courtown Harbor, River Slaney, and Wexford Bay.



• The map was compiled by John Bartholomew, and the image area measures 20 x 15 cm [8" x 6"].



• It was published in Philips' Handy Atlas of the Counties of Ireland, George Philip & Son, 32 Fleet Street, London, 1888.
