Ernst Ludwig Kirchner was a German expressionist painter and printmaker and one of the founding members of the influential group Die Brücke (The Bridge). His work is characterized by bold color, raw emotional energy, and dynamic draftsmanship. Kirchner’s style often pushed beyond naturalism, reflecting the anxieties, vitality, and transformations of early 20th-century life. Despite periods of personal struggle, he remained a central figure in modern art and is widely regarded as one of the most important expressionist artists.

Two Female Nudes in a Landscape (1921) shows Kirchner’s continued interest in the human figure within nature. The composition features two nude women situated in a natural setting, a recurring subject in his work where the nude and the landscape merge in expressive harmony. Executed after his move to Davos, Switzerland, the piece reflects his evolving use of vivid colors and elongated forms during the 1920s, where figures and environment are interwoven in dynamic rhythm.
