Leatherman Pocket Survival Tool – Vintage 1980s Japan

This is an original Leatherman Pocket Survival Tool (PST), manufactured in the 1980s in Japan. The tool appears to be in excellent condition, showing little to no signs of use. All components open and close smoothly.

Please note: When the tool is fully opened, the side that houses the knife blade tends to pivot downward under its own weight. This is a known and relatively common characteristic of early Japanese-made PSTs, which were assembled using rivets rather than screws. The riveted construction of this particular made in Japan model usually result in slightly looser tolerances over time or even right from the factory, particularly on one side or both sides.

However, all individual tools—including those on both the knife side and the opposite side—engage securely when opened. For example, the knife blade may fall outward under gravity when the tool is fully open, but once positioned for use, it locks firmly into place as intended. Closing the blade requires deliberate pressure, just as designed.

The original Leatherman-branded leather sheath is included and remains in excellent condition.
