Painted about 1820, it is a miniature portrait of a red-haired Spanish cavalry officer, whose name (according to legend on verso) was D(on). Joaquin Polo de Bernabé. Probably he is the same "Joaquin Polo de Bernabe, capitán de Voluntarios de Daroca" who is mentioned in Spanish sources as fighting in 1809, against French.
