Jean L. Mursell (1925 - 2009 . . . later Jean L. Mursell Norris) illustrated books written by her father, James Lockhart Mursell, who was well known for his writing about music education and the use of music in a classroom setting. She lived her life at her farmhouse on Black Mountain Road in Jackson, New Hampshire, surrounded by tenants who became friends and the dogs she loved. Her fine art degree from Pratt Institute went largely unused in favor of skiing and instructing. She was an active member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America well into her 70’s. She had a brief, passionate and prolific period where she was immersed in the arts colony in Santa Fe, N.M., capturing the landscape and culture of the Pueblo Indians in the early 1960’s. She returned to the Southwest high desert every spring for spiritual renewal. She was born in Appleton, Wis. on Feb. 12, 1925 to a minister and his wife.
