Penelope Delta (1874 – 1941) was a Greek author. She is widely celebrated for her contributions to the field of children's literature. Her historical novels have been widely read and have influenced popular modern Greek perceptions of national identity and history.
For the Sake of the Fatherland is the first novel by Penelope Delta, published in 1909. It is a historical prose work set in the Byzantine era, specifically in 995 AD, during the reign of Basil II the Bulgar-slayer. The novel is set in a period of intense conflict between the Byzantines and the Bulgarians, centered on the capture of Thessaloniki by Samuel. Delta incorporates historical events and figures into her narrative, offering readers a vivid picture of the era. It remains one of Penelope Delta's most beloved works, maintaining its importance in Greek literature.
Ex-Libris N.T. Nikorareizis: The Nikolareizis family played an important role in the economic and political history of Samos, from the development of the tobacco trade to participation in the national resistance.
