All DB 19 connector shrouds work best if the plastic flange on either side of the connector is hand sanded down because NeXT Sound Box and Cube or Stations female DB 19 connectors are set further back . I looks like the manufacture of the DB19 shrouds added this flange but it is a little too thick .

You will need a NeXT Sound Card, or NeXT Sound Box or Compatible 3rd party card for it to work for you.
It REPLACES the need for an Original Sony 17" Mega pixel NeXT 4000 or 4000 A or 4000 B monitors,
Why won't this custom Y Cable work with my original NeXT Monitor? The original NeXT Monitor was powered by the NeXT monitor cable
and the keyboard plugs into the sound card in the monitor. The gage of the wiring in our custom cable does not meet the spec needed to power up the monitor
and the internal wiring by design is split to create a modern solution that works . We have sold hundreds of these.
One end to sound box , center at cpu, other end to flat panel.
Update for 2023 , If your original NeXT Monitor 4000, 4000A or 4000B B&W has gone dim with our cable you can use it as a surrogate . You plug your keyboard into your old NeXT monitor center our custom cable at either your NeXT Mono Station or NeXT Cube and use the Custom VGA connector to display on a modern flat panel . I do not know
why the manufacture of the shrouds added this flange .
I'm not going to do the sanding unless requested by the buyer as it is optional and the custom cables are factory sealed and will work with the flange but with a slight modification the screws can mate with the onboard db 19 connectors securing them in place . I use a philip's screw driver and a sanding block takes about 15 Minutes to disassemble, sand and reassemble the connectors on the custom cables.
Most of the original 30 year old NeXT 17" Sony Megapixal Black and white monitors 4000, 4000a, 4000b either have been recycled or
have become inoperable dimming, caps failure, component failure or the original cable is missing.
If yours is missing please start by asking the former owner to look around for it as a lot of the cables have gone missing.
I'm sold out of these original cables please note it is 30 years later.

In fact if your monitor is dead or you are missing you can easily remove the NeXT sound card and repurpose it for use with this cable :) either permanently or temporarily.
If you do this route and decide to recycle the monitor , we can sure use the magnesium stands as some of those have gone missing as well , lol it is a labor of love.
The advantage of using our custom Y Monitor cable with your NeXT Cube or NeXT Station is you can hook your NeXT up to a modern flat panel monitor and actually use it today!

( NeXT Achilles heal is the Keyboard plugs into the sound card), so yes you need a sound card, the ports marked a and b on the NeXT stations or cubes are serial cable ports for modems and not for keyboards and mice )

New DB 19 to DB 19 to VGA for use with NeXT Cube mono must have later model 983 power supply not earlier model 152 unless you have our custom breadboard.
Also Compatible with all NeXTSTATION Mono and Mono Turbo Slabs must have matching sound box , keyboard and mouse. If you are not sure just ask I'll help.
No need to modify the Video portion of the Soundbox soundcard with this cable the work is already done plugin and go!
