Beautiful, string-tied 5-page menu and program for the banquet at the 1902 convention of the American Veterinary Medical Association in Spring Park, Minnetonka, Minnesota, printed more than 120 years ago.

  • The cover page has handsome Art Nouveau lettering and floral decoration.

  • The second page is the menu, including Filet of Minnetonka Black Bass, Tenderloin of Beef, and Breast of White Owl, with English Bread Sauce and Browned Sweet Potatoes.

  • It's quite startling to see owl meat on a menu, but owl meat was widely consumed in the United States before the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, which protects many bird species, including owls, making it illegal to hunt and kill them for food in the United States.

  • The third and fourth pages of the program have a list of speakers and musical numbers by vocalists and members of the orchestra of Charles Shibley, master of the mandolin and zither, and member of the faculty at the MacPhail School of Music in Minneapolis.

  • The fifth page is blank, and all pages are joined at the top by two strands of green yarn. Overall size is 9" x 5¼".

  • The 39th annual convention of the A.V.M.A. was hosted by the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association in Spring Park, Minnetonka, Minnesota, September 4, 1902.

  • Condition:  Menu and program are in very good, lightly handled condition, with some minor spotting on the cover and no rips, tears, or food stains. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
